How I Spent Lockdown

When people ask what I did during lockdown, the answer is easy: I gardened! Every day for many hours. After working at my desk each morning, I went outside and dug and weeded and planted and pruned–and the days flew by. I forgot that my bangs needed trimming when hope and beauty were evolving before my eyes. Now my veggies are ready to spring into action, and my peonies are glorious. Here are photos so you can see!

Kristen! Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and the sanctuary behind the gate. Your friend, Marilyn Brandenburg, (and my Mom) loved to garden and used to use a timer to make herself stop due to wrist pain after 45 minutes. Your love and dedication to gardening definitely shows in your variety and beauty. Seeing Foxgloves and Rhododendrons brings Bainbridge back to me. Have a glorious summer and thank you again!

Thank YOU, Linda, for your kind words. I had not known that your mother was such an avid gardener, but it makes sense. There is nothing like the peace to be found outdoors with our beloved green friends. I hope you’re okay. Come back to Bainbridge soon!

Kristin, what an inspiration and uplift your beautiful and endlessly transforming garden as well as your kind and caring animal posts have been for me during this social distancing time! I’ve been wanting to thank you so much!! Working in my garden surrounded by quiet beauty with my dog by my side is a solace, companionship and blessing vastly nourishing, comforting and connecting. I find myself far from separated but merging into a much grander and sustaining energy field than the one on the news. I know you appreciate just what I mean.

Gisele, I do appreciate exactly what you mean. I don’t think I could have made it through this time of fear and uproar without my dog and garden. Instant peace! If I had anything to do with making these months easier for you, then I am thrilled. Thank you for posting!

  3. So great to see you blogging again! What a beautiful garden you have. I continue to be so impressed that you not only get fresh novels out with frequency, but also seem to singlehandedly have created Eden.
    A treat to see it!

Well, thank you, Natalia! How lovely to think of my garden as Eden. I suppose it will be when my apple tree starts producing. I have worked so hard out there and am very proud!

Your flowers and gardens are gorgeous. I spent time planting and enjoying the yard and gardens at my home too. The best times were spent walking in a local park with my 3 rescue beagles – life is always better with dogs.
